What Is Same-Day Dental Implant?
Same-day dental implant, as the name suggests, involves placing the implant into the jawbone immediately after tooth extraction or within a very short period of time, and typically attaching a temporary prosthesis (such as a crown or bridge) on the implant on the same day or within a few days. You may have also heard this method referred to as "quick implant" or "single-session implant."

In traditional implant treatments, it was usually necessary to wait several weeks to a few months after tooth extraction for the implant to be placed, followed by an additional 3 to 6 months for the implant to fuse with the bone (osseointegration). Same-day implant procedures, however, significantly shorten this lengthy waiting period, allowing our valued patients to achieve their new teeth in as little as one day. This speed offers a significant advantage, especially for international patients visiting Turkey for a short period of time for treatment. It also eliminates the concern of being without teeth until the treatment is completed.

How Does the Same-Day Implant Treatment Process Work? Step-by-Step Information
Same-day implant treatment is a process carried out with meticulous planning and by an expert team. In our clinic, this process typically involves the following steps:
- Detailed Examination and Evaluation: Before starting the treatment, your oral and dental health is thoroughly examined. Advanced imaging techniques such as X-rays and 3D tomography (Cone Beam Computed Tomography - CBCT) are used to evaluate the density, quality, and anatomical structures (nerves, sinuses, etc.) of your jawbone. This stage is critical for creating the most suitable treatment plan for you and determining whether you are a suitable candidate for same-day implants. Your specific needs and expectations are also discussed during this phase.
- Tooth Extraction (If Necessary): If there is a tooth that needs to be extracted in the area where the implant will be placed, this procedure is carefully performed in a way that minimizes damage to the surrounding tissues (atraumatic extraction).
- Implant Placement: The implant is surgically placed in the area where the tooth was extracted or in a suitable adjacent area. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, and the patient does not feel pain during the process. Ensuring that the implants are placed in a way that they do not move (with sufficient primary stability) is key to success. Tapered implants are often preferred at this stage due to their superior initial stability. Achieving adequate placement torque is important. Guided implant surgery can make the placement process safer and more predictable.
- Temporary Prosthesis Application: If the implant has sufficient stability, a temporary prosthesis (usually a crown) can be attached to the implant during the same session. This temporary prosthesis helps address aesthetic concerns and, in some cases, partially restore chewing function. Small-diameter implants can be chosen for single-tooth replacement on the same day in flapless surgery to minimize tissue disruption.
- Healing Process: Even if a temporary prosthesis is placed, it still takes several months (usually 3-6 months) for the implant to fully integrate with the jawbone (osseointegration). During this period, care must be taken to avoid excessive load on the implant. Patients use their temporary prostheses during this time but should avoid hard or sticky foods.
- Permanent Prosthesis Application: Once it is confirmed that the implants have ideally integrated with the bone (osseointegration is complete), which usually takes 3-6 months, the temporary prostheses are removed, and your permanent dental prostheses (crowns, bridges, etc.) are prepared and placed on the implants. When the permanent prostheses are fully compatible with the implants and surrounding tissues, they are permanently adapted. Permanent prostheses are very similar to your natural teeth in terms of aesthetics and functionality.
